Make: Volvo
Engine: All Engines (2017 Emissions)

Fauld Code: P029900
PID: EMS
SPN: N/A
FMI: N/A
Description: Turbocharger/Supercharger Underboost
Troubleshooting:
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the intake manifold pressure (IMP) sensor and
controls the boost air system (mainly controlled by the VGT) and the engine turbocharger
compressor bypass valve. The ECM also uses parameters like engine speed (RPM) and
turbocharger speed to make a calculation of the IMP. This estimated value should not differ too
much from the measured value.
Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) Charge pressure Low
Observable symptoms
1) High soot level
2) Low Power
Probable cause
1) Charge air system leakage
2) Turbocharger
3) Charge air pressure sensor
4) Air Cleaner (ACL)
5) Faulty VGT position – The sensor shows a more closed position than the actual position
6) Faulty EGR position – Valve more open than it is supposed to

Description: Cylinder 5 fuel Injector Offset Learning At Max Limit
Troubleshooting:
Fuel Injector operation is controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM provides a
common supply voltage to injectors 4,5,6 (Bank 2) and there are individual output transistor
drivers inside the ECM to control each individual injector’s ground circuits. There are two
solenoid circuits within the injector; a Needle Control Valve and a Spill Valve. Although they are
separate circuits, the same fault code is used to identify a fault in the Needle Control Valve
circuit and/or the Spill Valve circuit.
Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) Injector (INJ) activated
2) Cylinder balancing data too high
Observable symptoms
1) Low Power
2) Uneven operation
3) Abnormal noise
Probable cause
1) Excessive wear or damage to cylinder liners, piston, or piston rings
2) Valves and rocker arms
3) Camshaft
4) VCB control valve sticking or slow to close
5) Injector 1
