CUMMINS UREA DELETE

Cummins is one of the manufacturers that uses SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology in their diesel engines, which requires the use of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) or urea to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx).

A “urea delete” or “DEF delete” for Cummins engines specifically, would refer to the process of removing or disabling the SCR system. This typically involves removing the DEF/urea tank, dosing unit, and catalyst, and reprogramming the engine control module (ECM) to disable the SCR system.

There are several reasons why someone might choose to delete the urea system on a Cummins engine:

1.-Cost: Urea/DEF is an additional fluid that needs to be purchased, stored, and refilled regularly. Removing the urea/DEF system eliminates this additional cost.

2.-Simplicity: Removing the urea/DEF system simplifies the engine, making it less complex, and less prone to issues or malfunctions.

3.-Performance: Removing the urea/DEF system can improve the performance of the engine by reducing the amount of exhaust gas that is recirculated back into the intake.

4.-Emissions: SCR systems are a crucial component in reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides, removing it might affect the emissions levels

It’s important to note that removing or disabling the urea system in a Cummins engine may not be legal in all jurisdictions, and can also void the vehicle’s emission warranty, so it’s important to check the laws and regulations before doing any modification. Additionally, It’s also important to know that removing these systems makes the engine illegal to use on public roads.

WHAT’S THE SCR (UREA) DELETE?

SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) is a technology that is used to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in diesel engines. It works by injecting a liquid reductant, such as diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) or urea, into the exhaust stream, where it reacts with a catalyst to convert the NOx into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. The process is known as selective catalytic reduction (SCR)

A “SCR delete” or “urea delete” refers to the removal or disabling of a vehicle’s SCR system. This is done by removing the DEF/urea tank, dosing unit, and catalyst, and also reprogramming the engine control module (ECM) to disable the SCR system.

Removing the SCR system can be done for a variety of reasons. Some people may choose to do it to improve the performance and fuel economy of the engine, while others may do it to lower maintenance costs or to address issues with the SCR system, such as DEF/urea dosing issues.

It is important to note that SCR systems are a crucial component in reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides and as such removing it might affect the emissions levels. Additionally, removing or disabling a SCR system may not be legal in all jurisdictions and can also void the vehicle’s emission warranty. Therefore, it’s important to check the laws and regulations before any modification.

DISCLAIMER FOR OFF-HIGHWAY TUNING

It is important to note that off-highway tuning, including DPF delete programming, is illegal in some areas and can void the manufacturer’s warranty. Off-highway tuning refers to modifications made to a vehicle that are not intended for use on public roads.

By installing off-highway tuning products, you are assuming all liability for the use of the vehicle and any resulting damages or injuries. These modifications may not comply with the laws and regulations in your area, and you could be subject to fines and penalties if caught using the vehicle on public roads.

Off-highway tuning products are intended for closed-course racing or off-road use only and are not legal for use on public roads. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are using these products in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
