Description: Engine Smoothness Control/Cylinder #6 Quantity Deficit
Troubleshooting:
DESCRIPTION:
This fault code sets when the Motor Control Module (MCM) detects that Cylinder #6 has low
rpm speed with the injector commanded to maximum fueling with all conditions met.
MONITORED PARAMETER:
1. Engine rpm.
2. Engine speed between 1100 rpm to 1400 rpm.
3. Actual torque load 40 to 80%.
4. Actual torque greater than 800 N·m (560 lb·ft) for DD13/DD15.
5. Actual torque greater than 1000 N·m (738 lb·ft) (between 1100 to 1300 rpm) or 1330 N·m
(981 lb·ft) (between 1300 to 1400 rpm) for DD16.
TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS:
1. No fuel system faults.
2. No circuit faults.
3. No air system faults.
4. Engine coolant temperature greater than 65°C (149°F).
5. Engine fuel temperature greater than 0°C (32°F).
MONITOR SEQUENCE:
None
EXECUTION FREQUENCEY:
Once per drive cycle.
TYPCIAL DURATION:
20 seconds
DASH LAMPS:
MIL
ENGINE REACTION:
25% derate
VERFICATION:
Key-Off for 5 minutes followed by a road test with all conditions met.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Drivetrain vibrations.

2. Valve lash out of adjustment.
3. Valve train damage/failure.
4. Bent valve.
5. Valve face/seat damage.
6. Stuck jake brake.
7. Bearing failure.
8. Bent connecting rod.
9. Cylinder liner damage.

Description: Idle Fuel Quantity Out of Range
Troubleshooting:
DESCRIPTION:
Fuel quantity above normal operating range at idle.
MONITORED PARAMETER:
Injector quantity
TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS:
Engine Idle and no vehicle speed.
MONITOR SEQUENCE:
None
EXECUTION FREQUENCEY:
Continuous when enabling conditions met.
TYPCIAL DURATION:
Two minutes
DASH LAMPS:
MIL
ENGINE REACTION:
No derate
VERFICATION:
Steady engine idle (two minutes).
NOTE: This fault code will set with excessive load at idle such as running with engine loaded
through FEPTO equipment without putting the truck in PTO mode.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
Adjustment of the equipment/PTO putting additional load on the engine.
